Did you know there are actions you can perform during the work day to improve your physical health?
Only 1 in 3 adults receive the recommended amount of physical activity each week.1 Believe it or not, your physical health impacts not only your mental health, but also your productivity at work. Employees who are healthier experience less stress, are more productive, require less sick leave, and have lower healthcare costs.2
With the average work week being 40 hours, that equates to one-quarter of our lives being spent in a workplace setting. A majority of that time will be at the office sitting in a chair for countless hours and possibly restricted to a confined space. But the work day doesn’t have to minimize time for some physical activity. Some simple at-your-desk activities you can take part in are:
- Stand up and walk around your work area every hour
- Perform arm circles, air squats, deep breathing exercises, and total body stretching for 30-second sets
- Take a 20-minute walk during your lunch break
- Utilize fitness technology to track progress, such as a Smartwatch, pedometer, or fitness application
Physical exercise helps improve brain health, stress levels, body mobility, and weight management, and reduces future health risks. There is always time to make great habits for yourself at work.
